Emma + Connor, Married! | Oklahoma City Wedding Photographer
This wedding was particularly special to me. Emma and I met freshman year of high school, and she’s been one of my most consistent and loving friends ever since. Seriously, I ADORE this girl and I’ve always felt a little protective over her. We’ve been through so much together; our awkward phase, figuring out our career paths, a brief rivalry during senior year, heartbreaks, new beginnings… which is why I cried happy tears when I learned that she and Connor were going to be getting married.
Unlike guys Emma had previously dated, I loved Connor from the moment I met him, and I knew from the early days of their relationship that he was going to be the man Emma would end up with, long before Emma knew. The three of us have had a lot of time to bond; we’ve gone on road trips together, seen one of Conan’s live tapings, eaten so much food, and have a looong thread of memes in our ongoing group text that I’m pretty sure won’t end until at least one of us is dead. So, naturally, I had to spend at least a week in Oklahoma City hanging out with them before the wedding.
The week I spent with them was one of the most fun weeks of my life, but, when the big day finally came, tensions were high, flowers were starting to wilt, and the process of getting everything ready was taking a lot longer than anticipated. Everyone was stressed, but we tried our best to take every moment in and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime event.
While his groomsmen were getting ready, Connor opened his wedding gift from Emma – a little black book full of her boudoir photos (taken by me – you’re welcome, Connor). This is one of my favorite wedding-day traditions and I wish more people would do it! The way his face lit up when he opened the book, it was evident how much he loved his soon-to-be wife, and it was nice that amongst all the chaos, at least one of us was feeling calm and content.
Once the ceremony was over, all the stress melted away. No one was crying, no one was rushing, and it was officially time to get the party started!
I was trying to decide how I was going to end this post. I could keep it simple and stick to, “Congrats, Emma & Connor! I wish you all the best!” Or I could give another little anecdote about how much it warms my heart to see my lifelong friend settling down with the right guy.
But then I decided to look back at the photos I took when I visited them in October 2018, and I found a photo that really seemed like the perfect conclusion to this post.
After the wedding reception ended, we headed to Bar Arbolada, one of my favorite bars we went to during my last visit, for a night cap. I snapped a couple photos there, not thinking much of it. When I looked at the photos from the last trip, I found an image of Emma & Connor sitting in the same spot.
The week that image was taken, Emma confided in me that she was afraid Connor was never going to propose to her. The girl in that photo was unsure and afraid of what the future had in store for her, and now she sits in the same spot with the same man, as his wife. A lot can happen in a short window of time. If you’re not where you want to be in life, be patient. You’ll be there soon.
